Getting to the Church in time - a History of Wedding Cars

Your marriage is one of the most important decisions you will make in your life. It is the start of a journey together that will bring you closer together and hopefully many years of happiness. Sharing your life with someone special is a lovely road to travel.

All cultures and religions celebrate the joining of a man and woman and have ceremonies to celebrate the moving forward of a couple. The arrival of members of the bridal party has been a tradition that has played an important part in weddings throughout history.

The much used phrase 'get me to the church in time' is a commonly known saying that has been quoted for hundreds of years. It is also a much used script line for Hollywood films and books where a bride or groom has to rush to the church against adversity to get to the wedding ceremony.

Before the invention of the motor car:
The preferred entrance to a wedding was by horse and carriage. It was also popular in Irish villages to walk to the church. The local villagers would line the streets and throw rice and even household utensils in front of the prospective couple to wish them luck on their wedding. In Asian cultures the bride would be carried in elaborately decorated carts.

After the invention of the car:
The invention of the automobile was a huge turning point in the way people traveled to their wedding ceremonies. The huge success of the car industry at the turn of the century was a signal that people would be abandoning traditional forms of wedding transport for four wheels. The Ford Model T was the first mass audience car to be used as a Wedding Car Hire Perth. Whilst the elite of the day were associated with brands such as Bugatti, Morgan, Austin and Mercer.

After World War 2 we saw the introduction of some really iconic car makes including Rolls Royce, Jaguar and Chevrolet. These cars were true status symbols of the time because of their beautiful lines, opulence and size. They were the ultimate in wedding vehicle luxury. These cars are still popular cars to be used for weddings. At Wedding Car Perth we have several refurbished and immaculate Rolls Royce’s and Jaguars available to hire in our fleet of wedding cars. They are a perfect choice for those who want to travel in style.

Perth is now a very successful city it has grown quickly in recent years due to the boom in the mining and construction industries. The city of Perth has out performed other cities within Australia. As the economy starts to grow we are starting to see more people with an increased disposable income. This has seen a huge growth in the luxury services market. One particular area is the Wedding industry that boasts annual revenue for the state of Western Australia a whopping total of over 50 million dollars per year with the average couple spending over $30,000 dollars on their wedding.

Limousine Hire within Perth has been one of the industries that has grown with this new boom and new wealth. There are now over 50 limo and hummer hire companies in Perth alone competing for the growing market of customers. The cars on offer are quite incredible from pink stretched hummers, stretched Volkswagen camper vans, hummers with nightclubs inside them and traditional classic wedding cars to hire.

We spoke one of the limo his companies. Pierce Bradley from SoCalLimos said that his business has grown from strength to strength. He started with just 2 cars to a fleet of over 13 wedding cars.

He said "we started with the Hummer which was a great success. It is still the longest hummer in Perth and has some amazing features including luxury leather seats, disco floor and laser lighting. The demand for these type of vehicles have increased and we have had so many requests we needed to expand our fleet.  Our latest car is the 2015 Chrysler Limousine that has some amazing jet doors that open like the bat mobile' Pierce also noted that the demand was not only for limousines but for classic cars as well.Particularly for the wedding market.

He said

"We have really expanded our classic range. These are extremely popular for weddings. I think people love the romance that an old vintage car can give to a wedding.Nowadays many cars look the same. Our classic cars really stand out in photographs and add something unique and memorable to a special day.Top brand names such as Rolls Royce, Bentley and Jaguar are symbols of a time when things were just that little more elegant.”

Perth Wedding Car Hummers - That Will Make You Jump For Joy!

At some stage this boom may end but we can see that the desire for beautiful things will never go away. After speaking with Pierce Bradley it was interesting to hear that he had expanded his business. He had taken on more drivers and also built a new showroom for customers to come and view his cars.

Pierce told us that a great thing about the classic cars is that they keep their value. These classic cars stand the test of time and are always growing in value as they become more scarce. These cars will be around long after the boom in mining.
